National dance fete organised by the NYK begins today
The National Dance Festival organised by the Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK) will be held at various places in the district from December 24 to 28.
Dancers from several States have started arriving at Chadayamangalam, where the festival will begin.
Traditional dances from the States of Punjab, Assam, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Goa, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Jharkhand, and Chhattisgarh, apart from Kerala, will be staged during the festival. More than 250 dancers will participate.
NYK coordinator B. Ali Sabrin said the festival was being organised to spread nationalism, communal harmony, and unity among the youth.
The festival would comprise campaigns against substance abuse and awareness classes on the freedom movement and the cultural traditions of the country.
The dancers will visit the legendary Jadayupara at Chadayamangalam on Friday.
The festival at Chadayamangalam will be inaugurated by Mullakkara Ratnakaran, MLA; at Kottukkal by N.K. Premachandran, MP; at Karunagapally by K.C. Venugopal, MP; and at Pathanapuram by Kodikunnil Suresh, MP.
The final programme in the district, to be held on the Kollam beach on December 28, will be inaugurated by Labour Minister Shibu Baby John. Tourism Minister A.P. Anil Kumar; P.K. Gurudasan, MLA; Mayor Honey Benjamin; and district panchayat president S. Jayamohan will be present.
