AIADMK will sweep the May 16 Assembly elections by winning 164 seats, while the DMK will be a distant second with 66 seats, according to a opinion poll conducted by a Tamil news channel.

The opinion poll conducted by Puthiya Thalaimurai-APT said the AIADMK would get 38.58 per cent of votes, DMK (32.11 per cent), DMDK-PWA-TMC (8.55 per cent), PMK (4.47 per cent), Naam Thamizhar (2.12 per cent) and BJP (1.96 per cent).

The survey conducted with 4,999 persons across Tamil Nadu between April 18 and May 4 was telecast on the channel on Monday. The opinion poll, released just 7 days before Tamil Nadu goes to polls, said the AIADMK would score a landslide victory with 164 seats, the DMK 66 seats and others 4.

However, the survey said 51.68 per cent of the people interviewed said they would not give another chance to the AIADMK Government, while 42.67 per cent of them said they would give another chance to the dispensation led by J Jayalalithaa.

Ms Jayalalithaa also pipped M. Karunanidhi in the category of the Chief Ministerial candidates’ people like, scoring 39.66 per cent of votes against his 31.89%.

It said 31.89 per cent favoured M. Karunanidhi, Vijayakanth (8.59 per cent) and Anbumani Ramadoss (5.03 per cent). Interestingly, Naam Thamizhar convener actor Seeman was favoured as their favourite CM candidate by 2.40 per cent of those surveyed.

His party will fare better than the BJP, the survey said. To a question whether the DMDK-PWA-TMC combine is strong, the survey said 69.37 per cent opined in the negative while just 20.87 per cent spoke in the affirmative.

The channel said the AIADMK fared much better than the DMK in all regions — South, North, Chennai, West and Central — as well in the age group as well.
The survey said people in the age group of 51-65 are the active supporters of the AIADMK with 44.55 per cent of them supporting the party, while the DMK fared better among 65 plus age with 39.77 per cent supporting the party. The survey said the PMK would score more than 15 per cent votes in its stronghold of northern region.
