Chennai, Dec. 27: The Niira Radia tapes seem to have an unexpected spin-off in Tamil Nadu as the party organs of the ruling DMK and the opposition AIADMK have come out with what they claimed to be tapped phone conversations involving their rival leaders that touch a new low in base politics. This is not the first time that the two parties have indulged in such attacks, quite below the belt.
The new vulgar bout was launched by DMK organ Murasoli in its Sunday edition, when a whole half-page on the back was earmarked for colourful display of what it purported to be a 1970 phone conversation and related happenings involving J’s acts of indiscretion.
Hitting back, the AIADMK paper Namadhu MGR on Monday had an identical back-page display with a copy that had three characters and a story about a ‘polygamist’ taking away another man’s wife. Here too, there are enough hints to show that the copy referred to a top DMK leader in poor light.
