DMK treasurer M.K. Stalin is expected to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Speaker P. Dhanapal on June 3, the day when the DMK celebrates the birthday of party leader M. Karunanidhi.
AIADMK member Dhanapal will file nomination for Speaker’s post and ‘Pollachi’ V. Jayaraman for that of deputy Speaker on June 2. They are certain to be elected, since no one had filed nominations to contest against them. The swearing-in ceremony will be held on June 3 and DMK members will be busy with the birthday celebrations of Karunanidhi.
As per procedure, the floor leader and Leader of Opposition will lead the Speaker to his chair. The DMK had already intimated about the election of Stalin as the Opposition leader and he is expected to lead Dhanapal to his chair as per norms.
Karunanidhi had already said he would always follow the democratic norms and Stalin is expected to attend the Assembly despite the birthday programme of party leader.
After the Speaker and deputy Speaker takes charge, the leaders of all parties including the DMK and Congress besides the other one-member parties would speak in the Assembly greeting the Speaker, followed by the Chief Minister.
The Governor’s address will take place in the next session expected to begin in a week or ten days.
